Dutch tenor Peter Gijsbertsen finished his studies in 2006 at the Conservatoire in Utrecht after which he has been coached by Harry Peeters and Gilbert den Broeder. In 2007 Peter was the winner of the John Christie Award in Glyndebourne.
Operatic roles include Tamino/Zauberflöte (Oviedo), Principal tenor/Fairy Queen (Glyndebourne Festival Opera), Gernando/L’isola disabitata (Nationale Reisopera), Eurimaco & Giove/Ulisse (Opera Cologne).
With Gilbert, Peter appeared twice in the Grachtenfestival. For both years he was a nominee for the Grachtenfestivalprijs, a prize for outstanding young talent. Among other lied repertoire they performed Die schöne Müllerin by Schubert and Liederkreis and Dichterliebe by Schumann.
On the concert platform Peter has performed the tenor solos in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Stravinsky’s Pulcinella (Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra) and Rautavaara’s Vigilia (Groot Omroepkoor).
On the agenda are 1st tenor in Le vin herbé by Frank Martin (Staatsoper Berlin) and Novice/Billy Budd (Glyndebourne Opera Festival).
